The Penwell Mansion was hand built in 1896 by the great-grandfather of the current owner Donald Rowles. The stately mansion is listed in the National Historical Registry and is the only true turn-of-the-century Victorian Italianate architectural building left in Central Idaho and is certainly considered a gem in the heart of Challis.
